Untitled Conversation - Somewhere near the beginning

1. I don't own these characters, and I'm not Ferengi, so profit's the last thing on my mind.
2. Rated PG. Again.

I just can't get them out of my head. I posted, said, "That's that," thought I'd just do some reading, and ended up writing this snippet. All I know for certain is that it's before "A Little Song". Way before, I think.

"B'Elanna, would you like to go riding with Chakotay and me?" For the last fifteen minutes, Seven and the compact engineer had been silently repairing a plasma manifold.

"Spanner, please." Once B'Elanna was again immersed in Voyager's guts, she playfully responded Seven. "Does Sam know you're seeing Chakotay as well?"

"Sam and I have been dating for two months. Why must you continue to torture me about this?" Seven's gaze was only slightly glacial. She rather enjoyed being teased about her relationship.

"Because that was one hell of a hickey." B'Elanna laughed. Seven blushed furiously. A few days ago, B'Elanna had approached the couple as they ate breakfast in the mess hall and complimented Sam on the large hickey on her neck. Seven had blushed, but Sam had proudly said thank you. Afterwards, Sam had the doctor remove it, but B'Elanna couldn't let it go.

"I can not help it if that spot drives Sam wild. She is very desirable and I enjoy the way she moans." Seven decided to give a little back.

B'Elanna just laughed, "Well, it's about damned time, Seven. All done." B'Elanna backed out of the hatch and wiped the sweat off her ridges. She became slightly serious with her next sentence, "You do know you're the talk of the ship, don't you? I mean, you specifically. Nobody ever thought you'd become involved with anyone, especially after Chapman. You pretty much said so yourself."

"Yes," the former drone responded quietly, "but I'm not the same individual I was eight years ago."

"And thank god for that! I think Janeway was getting ready to start tossing us into the brig!" A brightening of pale blue was the only indication that Seven was amused. "Seriously, are you alright with the talking?" B'Elanna remembered how guilty she felt once she began to understand just how deeply her tall friend felt. Sometimes, she wished Seven still had the inhibitor.

"I promise, B'Elanna. Everything is fine. From what I hear, they are finally seeing me as a whole person." A small smile passed over sensous lips. "I like what they are saying this time. I was actually more worried about what they might say about Sam, but she was right. The crew is seeing this as a natural development of our relationship, and they can see that we are happy."

"Alright." B'Elanna grinned. "I just had to be sure. So how's Naomi doing with it? I know she was excited about it in the beginning. Has the shine worn off yet?" This time Seven's smile remained in place.

"It has not. She is still delighted that she can wake up to her two favorite people." Suddenly, Seven frowned. "You have diverted me from our original topic. Would you like to go riding with Chakotay and me?"

"Yeah, I'd like that. When and where?" B'Elanna laughed. These days she thought Seven's combination of humanity and Borgness were cute.

"We ride every Wednesday at 18:00 in Holodeck 2. I recommend jeans and boots for atire. We will sweat profusely, so a natural fiber shirt would be best."

"We? Where are we riding? A desert?"

"Yes, " stated Seven as though it were perfectly obvious. B'Elanna raised an eyebrow, so Seven elaborated, "Chakotay's tribe is from the Four Corner's area of Arizona, a state which provides mesas, the Rocky Mountains, and the Mojave Desert. Even in the foothills, the temperature can be extremely high, and the computer varies the temperature between 85 and 95 degrees Farenheit, Chakotay's comfort level."

"That's all well and good, but what about your biosuit?" B'Elanna asked what she thought was the obvious question.

"While it is efficient, I found it was not . . ."Seven paused slightly embarrassed. "It did not enhance my fun." B'Elanna just grinned ironically. Seven grinned in return, then picked up the toolkit, grabbed the engineer's sleeve, and pulled her to the exit.
